Welcome To Personal Britain

The original aim of Personal Britain was to help you find our photographic guides to places we have enjoyed because of their...
• natural beauty
• historical interest and/or
• folk tradition
...by selecting "location points" on a master map of the UK which would link you to the relevant articles.
But we soon found that a master map of the whole of Britain got far too crowded to be useful(!) - so we've now split the country into more manageable areas, with a master map for each.

For "location points" showing single destinations (e.g. Durdle Door or Bakewell) and walks, there is a master map for each traditional county[See note below]

For scenic drives there are separate master maps for England, Scotland and Wales (because the drives often straddle county boundaries and overlap single destinations.) We haven't visited Northern Ireland yet, sorry...

Please make a selection to proceed:

1. For scenic drives/many destinations:
2. For single destinations and walks:

[Note that the counties used in our content lists are ceremonial or traditional geographic counties like "Somerset" and not administrative counties like "Bath and North East Somerset."]

3. Or choose directly from our Content List.

[Desktop, laptop and large tablet users can access this from any page directly: it's located at the top of the sidebar - to the right.

If you are a small-screen user (e.g. using a mobile phone) you will find that this sidebar has been stripped off to maximise the content area. But you can still access a Content List by selecting it from the navigation menu at the top of any page.]

Content Lists have three sections:
